 Walkways can pose a particular safety hazard.

• Cracked or uneven walkways

• Proper drainage.
  Small puddles can turn into large safety hazard when they turn into an ice patch.
  
  
• Proper width.
  Narrow walkways can be shovelled and cleared, but what happens to all that snow? It usually builds on the sides of the walkway. If it is narrow it becomes more narrow  with the piled-up snow.  
  
  
• Strategically placed railings.
  Steps or a change in height can be a challenge for seniors. SeniorSafe recommends installation of railings in these areas.
